GETTING LOST AT HOME

Posted by LOST IN THE WORLD on

The past weeks have been a hell of a roller coaster for everybody and while we’re all stuck inside and probably worrying/going crazy from time to time, it’s more important than ever to keep our peace and take care of ourselves and our loved ones (even if remotely). At Lost In The World we’re trying to stay sane and positive in these weird times by focusing on ourselves, our mind, body and overall health.

Get lost with us at home and find out how we isolate. We’re all stuck in our homes anyway, so why not share our thoughts and tips with each other?

Do you have (new) healthy routines you stick to these days?
I started working out last week. It’s been a while for me since I had some decent exercise, so I figured it’s a good time to start.

What are you currently reading/watching? Why would you recommend it?
I’m currently watching multiple series. I started with Seinfeld and so far I’ve seen some episodes, but not the complete serie. It is definitely something you have to watch during boring quarantine days, because it is so relatable. I am also rewatching Community and the Sopranos. Community is a must-see show, not only for the hilarious and legendary Señor Chang, but also for the genius that is Donald Glover.

The Sopranos is in my top 5 of best series ever made, maybe even number one. Everything about it is brilliant, from the aesthetic to the storyline. It is also a great inspiration for summer fits.

Tell us what you have been doing to stay sane and healthy during quarantine.
I’ve been going on bike rides and long walks with my dog. I’m usually the dude who takes his car everywhere, so it’s nice now to just take the bike and ride through the fields of Flanders. Thanks to the long walks with my dog, I get the opportunity to pass by the houses of some of my friends to say hi and socialize through the windows.

What are your three most played tracks? Why these?
Childish Gambino - 19.10
Roy Ayers - Everytime I See You

These two songs are some feel good songs that make me groove and forget about the shitty times we are having. Beside that I am listening to a lot of different music genres, dj-sets, playlists… to find new music that I can use to DJ.

What would you say is your guilty pleasure these days?
My snacks. I tend to snack a lot when I’m home and in these times I have a ton of snacks just laying around, waiting to be eaten.

Once this is all over, what’s the first thing you’ll do?
Hang out with friends.

Do you have (new) healthy routines you stick to these days?

I was already training for the 20K of Brussels before lockdown, but now I have even more time to go running, I try to go 3-4 times a week. On days that I don't go running, I do workouts at home to strengthen my core and abs.

What would you say is your guilty pleasure these days?
Sneaking into the kitchen to grab some of my favorite Haribo candy without my boyfriend noticing it. Makes me feel like a little kid.

Who’s the last person you called? Who’s going to be the next?
Last: my grandmother. Next: my brother. He’s one of my best friends and I miss him a lot.

Name three things you’ve recently begun to appreciate.
Waking up early, my bike and cleaning. I recently moved in with my boyfriend and now I realise how important cleaning really is. A fresh, good-looking, crispy-clean apartment is more relaxing than I thought.

Can you share some tips to stay fit / healthy at home?
A lot of us are focusing on working out and getting fit, including myself. I believe that it’s important to keep your body healthy, but at least equally important, or even more important, is our mental health. During these times you can feel anxious or stressed, I myself have had some breakdowns the last week and the lockdown is getting heavier on me. For me it works to name a few positive aspects in my life, because it helps to put everything into perspective.

Once this is all over, what’s the first thing you’ll do?
I’ll go to the seaside. I live in Bruges, which is actually not too far from the seaside, but we're not allowed to go at the moment and I truly miss that place. It helps me calm down.

Do you have (new) healthy routines you stick to these days?
I bought an alarm clock so I don’t have to take my phone to bed anymore and I also started doing 10 minutes of yoga and stretching in the morning, which is really great to wake up and warm up my body and muscles. Especially when I wake up with a sore neck - which is almost every day.

What was the last good film you watched and what did you like about it?
I recently watched “42”, a film that tells the story of Jackie Robinson. Jackie was the first African-American to play in Major League Baseball and he got signed to the Dodgers. He faced extreme racism, but managed to fight through it. Very inspiring, but at the same time devastating and frustrating to watch.

Name three things you’ve recently begun to appreciate.
Phone calls with my grandmother, iced matcha latte and a decent hydrating hand cream.

Do you have any tasty / easy meal recommendations?
I really love some good, soft burrata mozzarella, particularly in summer. When I want a quick lunch, I just take a thick slice of bread (sourdough or wholegrain bread) toast it, top with red pesto, honey, half a burrata mozzarella, some cherry tomatoes, spring onions and crumbled walnuts. Add a few drops of truffle oil if you have it. Never disappoints.

Can you share some tips to stay fit / healthy at home?
I think it’s important to kick off your day with a healthy morning routine. My day starts around 7-7.30 am with my skincare routine, a quick yoga session, breakfast and ginger tea. I also find it important to stay active, so I regularly go for a run or walk or I squeeze in a little home workout.

When it comes to food, I just try to eat like a normal person, but during the first weeks of quarantine I went a little overboard. So this week is basically all about eating more balanced again. I love cooking so that plays to my advantage and it helps to try out tons of new recipes to keep it fun.

Once this is all over, what’s the first thing you’ll do?
When this is really over, I just want to hang out with my friends, my dog and my family again.

What are you currently reading/watching? Why would you recommend it?
I’m still obsessed with Tiger King. I usually avoid hyped TV shows and shit, but yo. It’s everything. I just got a subscription for ESPN Player, so next up is a ton of documentaries about legendary athletes. First up is Dennis Rodman. Netflix is releasing a documentary about Mr Cartoon & Estevan Oriol, which is essential viewing for anyone into hip hop/street culture/creativity. The new Margiela documentary is releasing on Friday as well. Exciting TV times.

When it comes to books, plenty of magazines, always, with 032c standing out from everything. I’m about to delve into ‘Monster: The Autobiography of an L.A. Gang Member’ and Lily Allen’s book which have both been on my reading list for a very long time so I’m excited about that.

Do you have any tasty / easy meal recommendations?
Wok everything. And sweet potato everything. I bought a slowjuicer in the beginning of the year and it’s my favourite thing in our kitchen. It broke down last week and it’s getting fixed, so it’s back to smoothies. Pineapple, banana and almond soy milk is my favourite.

Tell us what you have been doing to stay sane and healthy during quarantine.
I try to keep a routine and get up before 8AM so I get stuff done. Then do work/errands with a daily walk around noon. I’m recovering from a severe back injury so starting from this week I’m allowed to do a very small bit of exercising too.

How do you try to be creative when stuck between four walls?
To be honest, not that much has changed. The main difference is that I’m usually in the studio, and now I’m at home. I’ve gotten to appreciate my apartment more than ever. I have A LOT of magazines and books and a strong record collection, so inspiration is everywhere. My girlfriend moved in during lockdown, and she’s working from home as well, it’s refreshing and exciting to see how well it all ties in together.

What are your three most played tracks? Why these?
The Weeknd seems to be doing what he does best again on this new album, and Scared To Live is definitely my stand out track, hits all the right feels. Higher Power’s new LP is insane, it’s refreshing to see a hardcore band try and evolve into what some might call a more mainstream sound and do it succesfully: ‘In The Meantime’ is a jam.

Angel Du$t’s Park is a bop. It’s about the singer’s dog dying, and mine passed away around the time that LP dropped so it still has me in my feelings while making me happy at the same time.

Once this is all over, what’s the first thing you’ll do?
Hit the swimming pool across the street, then head over to the local lunch spot close to the studio and go for a beach walk. Forever my safe space.
